CODICOTE PARISH COUNCIL WISH YOU A VERY HAPPY CHRISTMAS AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR
This year has been a very busy year for the Council, we are proud of our achievements in so far as we have maintained or improved all of our normal services for example:- grass cutting, maintenance of the noticeboards, benches the allotments and the playgrounds and the equipment. The annual fireworks event was also well attended again this year.
Parish Council News 11/2011
Dear Codicote Residents
The Fireworks display was held on Saturday 5th November at the Bury Lane Sports field, the weather was very kind to us and the display was excellent with a great turnout. The Parish Council would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the volunteers who helped at the event providing the BBQ and teas, also to the Councillors who assisted as stewards and selling glow sticks. Thanks are also to go to Valerie Warwick for making the chocolate apples and to the Howe family for setting off the fireworks. We are pleased to report that a total of £542.44 was raised, breakdown as follows:
Bucket collection £214.44
Tea,coffee & BBQ £250.00
Chocolate apples £ 10.00
Glow sticks £ 68.00
The proceeds will be used in conjunction with the building of the new John Clements Sports Hall & Community Centre.
You will remember the Parish Council asked all householders to vote on whether or not to increase the Council Tax to raise money for the new building project, from the 1,500 letters sent out a total of 515 responses were received by the deadline, the result is as follows:-
Agree to an increase in the Council Tax 115
Disagree to an increase in the Council Tax 388
Void papers 12
The result shows a 78% majority vote against an increase in the Council Tax, we can confirm therefore that the Council Tax will not be increased for this purpose. The Parish Council have and will continue to support Jim Park and this project.
A Policy & Resources Committee meeting was held on 27th October, at this meeting applications for grants from the Parish Council were debated and given according to need. A breakdown on the grants awarded will be available shortly. Each Committee Chairperson also debated their financial responsibilities and the Clerk presented the Administrative financial requirements. Council then reviews and agrees the budget for 2012/13.
The Parish Council are inviting residents to come along to a meeting on Tuesday 10th January 2012 to discuss the setting up of a committee to organise events in Codicote to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee on 4th June 2012, please come along if you are interested and think that you will be able to help.
The Parish Council will not have a Full Council meeting in December but as always Councillors will be available to Parishioners, we wish you all a very happy Christmas and New Year.

The Apple Day event organised by the Parish Environment Action Plan was held on Saturday 8th October and was a great success although the weather could have been kinder, a very cold day. There were many varieties of apples on sale, cooking and eating. If you are interested in the work of PEAP please contact Mike Creasey on 01438 820487.
We would like to take this opportunity to welcome Mark Ireland as a Parish Councillor, we now have a full team and we are all looking forward to working together.
You will all have received a letter from the Council on the John Clements sports hall and community centre project, hopefully you have completed the tear off slip and returned it to the Council Offices, the deadline for the return of the slip was 21st October, so we will be a position to let you know the outcome in the next edition of the Parish magazine. Information will be available on the Council’s website and a notice will also be placed on the noticeboard outside of the Peace Memorial Hall. Thank you for taking the time to respond to this very important request for your view on whether to raise funds for the project via your Council Tax.
A wreath will be laid by a Parish Councillor on Remembrance Sunday, our thoughts will be with the families of the service personnel who have recently died in the conflict in Afghanistan.
We will again be having a Christmas tree on The Green and the Christmas lights will be erected in the High Street on Friday 2nd December, we are hopeful that they will look lovely again this year – if you notice any that are not working correctly please let us know on 01438 821770 or e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Dear Codicote Residents
The Parish Council are currently preparing the budget for 2012/13. The Committees review their expenditure to-date and they then consider how much will be required for the forthcoming year. The Policy & Resources Committee will then review their submissions before the budget is presented to the Full Council for their overall approval. The budget is then forwarded to North Hertfordshire District Council for them to calculate the Council Tax required from residents.
We are hoping that we will shortly be co-opting a Codicote resident to become a Councillor, we will then have a full team so that we can ensure that all duties are undertaken and projects proceeded with as planned. All Councillors are available to discuss matters, but in the first instance please contact the Parish Clerk, Lorraine Ellis on 01438 821770 or 07828 033006.
