From the High Street in Codicote, turn into Heath Lane. Once you leave Codicote the road goes down quite steeply, giving you a thrilling ride! Follow the road around the right bend at Codicote Bottom, after which it is an easy ride through the valley to Kimpton.

Once you reach Kimpton, turn right into Hitchin Road. You will be cycling uphill for about a mile, but it is not too steep and you are rewarded with great views of the countryside, including the Whitwell water tower.

In Whitwell you go downhill until you reach a T-junction at the bottom of the hill (not a good spot to test your brakes!). Turn right here onto the B561 in the direction of Hitchin. Where the B561 goes left, keep going straight ahead (signposted for Codicote).

This road takes you all the way back to Codicote. The first part of this road gives you an easy, level ride with lovely views. It then becomes a bit hilly, with two quite steep bits, but they are not very long. This road takes you back to Wyevale Garden Centre in Codicote.

This way around is the better option in terms of the amount of steep uphill cycling!
